How does Benzaclin work?
Acne is the most commonly diagnosed skin disorder in the United States. It occurs when hair follicles become overwhelmed by skin cells that block the opening of pores, resulting in either whiteheads or blackheads occurring. Benzaclin is the only acne product to contain the acne-fighting power of two active ingredients: Benzoyl and Clindamycin. Benzoyl peroxide is an ingredient commonly used to help reduce the inflammation caused by acne and it is also effective at removing the oily substance commonly found in patients with acne vulgaris. Benzaclin’s second active ingredient, Clindamycin, is an antibiotic that helps to fight the bacteria caused by acne and also reduces the swelling of the pimples.
When will I see the benefits of Benzaclin?
It may take up to 8 weeks to see the full benefits of Benzaclin although a small improvement should be seen within the first 2 weeks of treatment. If you do not see any improvements after 10 weeks you should consult your doctor for further information.
What are the side effects of Benzaclin?
Benzaclin cream does have some common side effects, although as with all prescription medication, these will vary from person to person. If a side effect is listed here, it does not guarantee it will occur during the course of treatment. Most Benzaclin users experience little or no side effects at all. Possible side effects include:
- Rash
- Itching
- Peeling
- Redness
If you experience any of the following rare side effects and you feel that they are very unusual or particularly bothersome, then you should consult your doctor straight away:
- Shortness of breath
- Swelling of lips or tongue
- Diarrhea

What other drugs will affect Benzaclin?
Benzaclin should not be used in conjunction with any other topical or oral acne treatments. An exception to this can be made if your doctor has otherwise directed that it is fine to do so. You should avoid the use of any cosmetics with harsh, abrasive or irritating properties.
Who can order Benzaclin?
Anyone who has ever had ulcerative or antibiotic-associated colitis may not be able to order Benzaclin. To avoid unwanted side effects, always wash your hands prior to using Benzaclin and do not apply the cream to areas of the skin that are dry, chapped or sun burnt. It has been placed into the FDA pregnancy category C, meaning that the effect of the drug on unborn babies is not yet known. For this reason alone, you should not order Benzaclin if you are pregnant. Likewise, if you are breast feeding then you should speak to your doctor first before deciding to buy Benzaclin
