A new clinic study into Erectile Dysfunction caused by low levels of the male sex hormone Testosterone, to establish whether or not these inadequate levels of the hormone can be caused or directly related to obesity and the many other conditions which can manifest as a result or the condition or indeed the excess weigh itself. The study, which has been published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, manage to establish just that, with cases of this form of impotence being found to directly correlate with instances of obesity and other weight related conditions amongst the male subjects who we’re surveyed.
Historically, there has often been a link between men who carry excess weight and erectile dysfunction which can be seen even as far back as the Byzantine era where it was commonly though that the size of a man’s stomach could often impede his ability to engage in sexual relations with their partner. Over a period of 25 years, since the prevalence and awareness of this condition have substantially increased, there have been a wide number of scientific researches armed with findings which have often pointed or highlighted the effect that obesity can have on the erection process. In addition, conditions such as diabetes and hypertension which are known to be worsened by excess weight and are among some of the most common reasons for the development of impotence throughout the male population.
This recent study was conducted with a population sample of 2,435 men suffering with the condition of impotence who had sort help for their condition between 2001 and 2007. The conclusions made by the leading scientists after this study were that obesity played a significant part in the increase of the physical causes of impotence and that it could be directly linked as the cause of the condition within a large number of the subjects who took part. It was also found that patients who we're suffering from clinical obesity we're also far more likely to develop abnormalities of the blood flow to their penises than those who we’re not obese.
Dr Mario Maggi, one of the surveys authors when asked to comment on these findings said “The link between obesity and ED might be a useful motivation for men to improve their health-related lifestyle choices. This is a landmark study in that it shows that sexual health is clearly linked to overall health, and that improving one's general health provides a man the opportunity to improve his erectile function" states Dr. Irwin Goldstein, Editor-in-Chief ofThe Journal of Sexual Medicine.
