There may be many reasons for overweight people to lose their extra weight. However, a men health specialist says that sex may prove as a real motivational factor.
According to Professor Gary Wittert of the University of Adelaide, most of the men know that obesity can also cause erectile dysfunction problems. So, fear of affecting their sex life may force obese men to treat obesity seriously. He is the head of the school of medicine.
He said that high levels of obesity among men in Australia may result in both physical as well as psychological diseases, which may become chronic. Obesity can also cause erectile dysfunction problems, as it restricts the flow of blood to parts of the body including penis.
According to Wittert, Australian men are very concerned about their sex life. So, if they are provided proper information about adverse effects of obesity such as erectile dysfunction, then they may become serious about this problem.
Health surveys in Australia
The present trends of obesity in Australia indicate that there are about 67 percent of men with BMI (body mass index) more than 25. This puts them in the category of overweight or obese people.
Two sexual health surveys for men were conducted in Australia. One is the Florey Adelaide Male Ageing Study and the other is the Men in Australia Telephone Survey. Wittert studied both the surveys and derived results about sex and obesity patterns among men.
Australians are fast become a nation of obese people. Therefore, according to Wittert, health practitioners could be trained to impart health information related to sexual problems and obesity, as men generally feel reluctant to spread information relating to their sex lives.
