Sexual dysfunction in men is commonly known as erectile dysfunction and is an early indicator of heart problems that may occur in future. Unlike this, there is no connection between sexual dissatisfaction and heart problems in menopausal women. This was revealed by researchers in the Women’s Health Initiative Observational Study conducted in the US. It is also published in the American Journal of Medicine.

Method of Study

Researchers examined data collected from more than 93,000 sexually active post menopausal women who were in the age group 50 –79 years. These women were keenly observed at 40 clinical centers spread in the US for a period of 8-12 years. These women were either sexually satisfied or unsatisfied.

Results of Study

Researchers observed these women for heart problems such as congestive heart failure, angina, peripheral artery disease, acute myocardial infarction, and stroke. The researchers could not find any association between sexual dissatisfaction and peripheral artery disease.

In men, experts have proved that erectile dysfunction gives an indication about possible future heart problems. It mainly happens due to low blood circulation in the body including areas of penis. This stresses the arteries of penis resulting in its loss of erection. However, some new prescription treatments have considerably helped men to get rid of this problem.

Menopausal women especially those who have had their ovaries removed generally struggle with low sexual desire. However a correlation between heart disease and Female Sexual Dysfunction has not been found, this condition can still cause a lot of stress. However there are special treatments available to specifically help in treating this condition.

How are Intrinsa patches used?

This skin patch is used on the abdomen by women who suffer from a low sexual drive. It is a prescription patch, so women should use it after doing a consultation with a physician. The main ingredient in Intrinsa is testosterone, which is also the natural male sex hormone.
