How does Valtrex work?

Valtrex medication contains the active ingredient ‘valaciclovir’ which works by blocking viral enzyme called DNA polymerase. The herpes viruses (including herpes simplex 1 & 2, varicella zoster and herpes varicella) requires the DNA polymerase enzyme to copy their genetic material from one cell to another, hence by blocking the enzyme it stops the infection from spreading and multiplying.
